The
tools and techniques in Knowledge Management (KM) are powerful measures
for enhancing the growth and development of the company if it is well
directed. It may also if not handled appropriately reflect inefficiency
in work sapping the energy of employees who may not see the objective
of these initiatives in the right perspective and be critically
inclined towards it and may try opting out of it. Michael Porter’s
Value Chain had created an environment of empowering major
corporations, but with the tremendous power of internet the opportunity
of developing KM has been phenomenally enhanced. The actual power
naturally lies in canalizing the forces of knowledge gained by
employees across the organization that is presently neglected. The
present Value Chain would work, however the question is- “Is the Value
Chain of a KM organization similar or different to Michael Porter’s?”
The paper notes that the success of the KM system if appropriately
designed would be an assured one in spite of growing competition. With
this in perspective the paper attempts to review reflectively on the
situation as to what would be the issues and factors that ensure the
success.
